In 2018, after 5 years of programming collaborations, from an indoor farmer’s market to jazz on Fridays, we purchased The Quarry. Referred to as The Gem of South Shore, our presence has reduced former horrendous violence in the area. Without incident, we’ve produced and hosted nearly 400 Jazz & Blues performances, compensating 1600 individual artists and supporting 1600 supporting staff.
Free Summer day camps featured yoga, meditation, drumming and walking field trips for the children. Our architecture and mural tours presented by our South Shore Tourism Center & Visitor’s are by appointment and we remain a Choose Chicago partner.
In 2020 Real Men Charities was called to lead South Shore’s Racial Equity and Rapid Response to COViD team. Our Quarry arts center became a Food Pantry and an official Greater Food Depository partner. We managed the distribution of 1 million pounds of groceries abd free breakfasts for children and families.
In 2021 West Side United contracted Real Men Charities to prepare and distribute 2700 hot meals As part of the South Side Health Equity Zone we work our special Art of community wellness programming, supported by the Auburn Gresham CDIF.
